Hal ini disampaikannya saat menghadiri Misa Syukur dan Pemberkatan alat kerja yang berlangsung di Sekretariat Bank Sampah Waikomo, Kelurahan Lewoleba Barat, Jumat (19/06/2026).
Dalam sapaannya, Bupati Kanis Tuaq mengungkapkan keinginannya untuk memiliki semangat kerja yang sama seperti para petugas kebersihan.

“Saya pingin menjadi orang kotor, pingin bekerja seperti bank sampah ini, karena dari yang kotor menghasilkan kota yang bersih, hati yang bersih,” ujar Bupati Kanis Tuaq.
Menurut Bupati, pekerjaan mengelola sampah bukanlah pekerjaan rendahan, melainkan tugas yang sangat mulia karena mampu mengubah kondisi lingkungan menjadi lebih sehat dan nyaman bagi masyarakat.
Ia menekankan bahwa di balik kesan ‘kotor’ saat bekerja, tersimpan hasil yang sangat bersih dan indah, baik secara fisik maupun batin.

“Harus riang gembira, senyum. Orang bank sampah harus mengambil format ini menjadi pekerja-pekerja yang luar biasa,” tegasnya.
Perayaan Ekaristi pada kesempatan tersebut dipimpin langsung oleh Pastor Rumah Soferdy Waikomo, Pater Frans So. Dalam homilinya, Pater Frans So menekankan bahwa pekerjaan membersihkan lingkungan adalah bentuk nyata dari pelayanan dan pengabdian seperti yang dicontohkan Yesus Kristus.
“Suatu hal yang luar biasa, kelompok sukarelawan ini mau melayani seperti Kristus melayani, menyelamatkan lingkungan hidup dan lingkungan masyarakat,” kata Pater Frans So.

Saat ini, Bank Sampah Cahaya Agate Waikomo telah memiliki 52 anggota yang beroperasi mulai pukul 03.00 dini hari.
Dengan mengandalkan 8 unit bentor, mereka bekerja keras menyusuri gang-gang sempit di tujuh kelurahan kota Lewoleba untuk mengumpulkan sampah plastik dan barang rongsokan.
Sejak diresmikan operasionalnya oleh Bupati pada Agustus 2025, lembaga ini telah melebarkan sayapnya ke tiga kecamatan, dengan target ekspansi hingga ke seluruh kecamatan di Kabupaten Lembata.
Merespons permohonan dukungan anggaran, penguatan armada dan skema kerjasama yang melibatkan OMK di tiap lingkungan, yang disampaikan Pembina yang juga Anggotá DPRD, David Blasius Huglole Koban atau Capten Vigis, Bupati menyatakan dukungan dan akan memperhatikannya dengan mempertimbangkan kondisi fiskal daerah.
Ia menegaskan komitmen pemerintah untuk terus mendukung program positif ini.
“Selama matahari masih terbit di ufuk timur, kita tetap selalu bersama. Nelayan jaga di laut, petani menjaga tanahnya, peternak menjaga ternaknya sendiri, dan Cahaya Agate Waikomo menjadi matahari yang terus bersinar,” pungkas Bupati.
